For a total of 39,651 children between 6 months to 16 yrs, door to door screening was conducted by trained workers. For children <5 years who fail to read 6/9 line, camps were conducted in the nearby schools &were directly referred to the tertiary eye care institute.60 camps were conducted within district.Visual acuity, cycloplegic refraction &complete examination was done to rule out other causes of diminished vision.Axial length measurement and corneal topography was done in high refractive errors. The prevalence of amblyopia was 1.75%.More than half of the patients in the age group of 11-16 years (63.58%). Refractive amblyopia was the most common cause in children reporting to the institute. In children below 5 years, sensory deprivation amblyopia and strabismic amblyopia were more common. Conclusions:Early detection and awareness of amblyopia among the parents is essential to identify &treat the disease early in its course,to reduce the burden of child’s visual impairment.
