Introduction: Cerebro-Vascular Diseases (CVD) result in functional disability & their visual disturbances go unnoticed which has significant impact during rehabilitation.
Aim: Assessing the association & need of visual fields (VF) screening in CVD patients with established papilledema & its effect on rehabilitation.
Methodology: Prospective study over 3 years of 28 eyes of 14 patients with CVD to analyse visual acuity, intra-ocular pressure, fundoscopy & VF & comparison of various parameters.
Results: With an average age of 39 yrs (M=F), patients presented acutely with defective vision and VF abnormalities (mostly homonymous hemianopia) and established papilledema.
Conclusion: As all CVD patients presented with significant VF defects, raised intra-cranial tension and established papilledema, it is mandatory to do VF screening for assessing worsening of optic nerve function in these patients. A delay in rehabilitation & functional independence might lead to progression of VF defects.
