OBJECTIVE: Visual outcome of secondary lens implant in aphakic children.
METHODS: A retrospective study including all the aphakic children with secondary anterior or posterior chamber lens implantation. All data exported from EMR in tabulated formats and analysed by SPSS 22.
RESULTS: Our study included 64 pediatric patients with mean age of 7.9 years, out of which 47(73.43%) were male and 17(26.56%) were female. We found that secondary lens implantation had improved visual acuity significantly (p=.00), particularly in >5 years of age, due to less amblyogenic factors. No significant difference was found with aetiology, primary surgical technique and location of IOL implanted.
CONCLUSION: Secondary intraocular lens implant in pediatric age group improved vision significantly, particularly with age >5 years.
